This national study of 441 senior student affairs officers (SSAOs) measured their perception of behaviors, attitudes, skills, and knowledge important to their effectiveness. Findings included SSAOs’ success requires providing effective leadership, handling constant change, and developing a connection to the university mission. The most important factor was maintaining integrity. Significant findings showed SSAOs who were women and people of color had higher scores, likely having to try harder.  50 SSAOs identified as LGB, over 11% who are no longer invisible.
