Considerations and Techniques for Assessing Queer and Trans-spectrum Students

Student affairs practitioners who conduct assessment can attest to the difficulties in operationalizing social identities in survey designs. There are few parameters in assessment scholarship or practice that equip staff to adequately represent students sexual and gender identities. The purpose of this session is to offer considerations and techniques for assessing queer- and trans-spectrum students, including queer theory and intersectionality as theoretical frameworks, inclusive institutional assessment designs, outcome-driven assessment, and question inclusion and format.
